Frequently Asked Questions

Does my dog need a veterinary Consent?

Yes. Veterinary consent is required before treatment can begin. This ensures hydrotherapy, mobility therapy, and laser therapy are appropriate and safe for your dog's condition.

What conditions can rehabilitation help with?

Rehabilitation may benefit dogs with:

  • Arthritis and osteoarthritis
  • Hip and elbow dysplasia
  • Cruciate ligament injuries
  • Patella luxation
  • Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD)
  • Neurological conditions
  • Muscle weakness and deconditioning
  • Chronic pain
  • Post-operative recovery

Every treatment plan is tailored to your dog's individual needs.

How many sessions will my dog need?

The number of sessions varies depending on your dog's condition, age, fitness level, and goals. Some dogs benefit from short-term rehabilitation following injury or surgery, while others with long-term conditions may attend ongoing maintenance sessions. However to start a rehabilitation programme 10 weekly sessions is recommended to start off with.

Will hydrotherapy help my nervous dog?

Many nervous dogs thrive in the supportive and controlled environment of hydrotherapy. As a Fear Free Certified Professional, I work at each dog's pace and adapt sessions to help build confidence and create positive experiences.

Is laser therapy safe?

Yes. Therapeutic laser therapy is non-invasive, painless, and well tolerated by most dogs. It is commonly used to support pain management, reduce inflammation, and promote healing.

What happens during the first appointment?

Your first appointment includes a discussion of your dog's medical history, lifestyle, goals, and current mobility challenges. A thorough assessment is carried out before a personalised rehabilitation plan is created.

Can rehabilitation help older dogs?

Absolutely. Rehabilitation can help senior dogs maintain strength, mobility, comfort, and quality of life. Many older dogs benefit from a combination of hydrotherapy, mobility work, and home exercises.

Do you work with behavioural concerns as well as physical conditions?

Yes. Pain, mobility, confidence, and behaviour are closely connected. I take a holistic approach to rehabilitation and consider both physical and emotional wellbeing when planning treatment.

Do you provide home exercises?

Yes. Home exercises and management advice may be provided where appropriate to help support your dog's progress between sessions.

Can I get in the pool with my dog?

No. For safety, insurance, and treatment reasons, owners are not permitted to enter the pool with their dogs. Dogs are closely supervised and supported throughout their session, and every effort is made to ensure they feel safe, comfortable, and confident in the water.

Do you offer multiple dog swimming sessions?

No. Sessions are provided on an individual basis to ensure each dog receives my full attention and a programme tailored to their specific needs. This also helps maintain a calm, controlled environment, particularly for nervous, recovering, or rehabilitation patients.

My dog can't swim. Can they still have hydrotherapy?

Yes. Many dogs attending hydrotherapy have never swum before or may lack confidence in the water. Sessions are introduced gradually and at your dog's pace, with appropriate support and encouragement throughout. The aim is to create a positive experience while helping your dog gain confidence and benefit from treatment
